On the local train to Tokyo main station.
Tokyo station is buzzing, as always.
Our shinkansen train bound for Sendai.
Time for lunch - out of the Romance Car bento box.
Contents of the bento box.
And then we enriched our lunch with tuna sashimi.
Travelling at that speed (165 mph) makes really fun.
The Matsushima fire department is practicing today.
Local school building with soccer field lined with trees.
Nice bridge to a viewing point.
Famous island Fukuura-Jima off the coast of Matsushima.
Small shrine at the viewing point.
So many great trees can be seen here.
This area is famous for its small rocky islands.
And you also find nice old buildings (between ugly modern ones).
Access to the Zuiganji temple through a nice alley.
Some old parts of the temple are on display at the entrance.
Temple main building.
You have a great view of the garden from here.
And there is a small house in the backyard as well.
It's connected to the main building by enclosed stairs.
Newly renovated building on the temple grounds.
And everywhere you find nice gardening work.
Terrace along the tea house.
A row of bushes with autumn leafs.
All the areas of the temple are connected with fancy gates.
Outside of the temple grounds there is a shopping and food street.
There are many graves with tombstones in the rock face on the temple grounds.
We need to quickly move over to the island before the sun is setting down.
This is wall seems to be dedicated to the hard working fisher men.
A long red bridge is leading over to the bridge.
The pine trees are dominant on that island.
But that's exactly what creates the fascinating look of the island.
Enjoy the phantastic views from the island's view point.
For example to the smaller neighbouring islands.
Reaching another view point.
It also features a small shrine.
And there are even more islands around the one we're visiting today.
It's getting dark and the lights start making their impression.
Looking back to the illuminated main land.
Of course the bridge is also lighted up brightly at night.
Tsunami evacuation route.
Good idea at a department store in Sendai: a plastic bag for your umbrella, so that you don't mess up everything inside.
